Squilchuck State Park

Squilchuck State Park has been complete reserved for Evergreen.  Come for the weekend and camp for free!  Tent sites and RV spaces are available (no hookups).

September 21st

Its Friday night… Get off work come up to the park and set-up camp.

 September 22nd

9:00 – 5:00  Trail work party on Devil’s Gulch and Mission Ridge

Take your skills to two of the best trails in Washington State.  Devil’s Gulch and the mission ridge Trail are in need of some serious maintenance.  We will provide the tools… you provide the elbow grease.

Lunch (bring your own)

6:00  Pig Roast back at the park

That’s right we are roasting a pig!  You deserve it after a hard day of trail work.  Please bring a side dish or a desert to add to the party.  Beer and pig will be on hand.

September 23rd

Devil’s Gulch Group Ride

9:00am  Reap what you sow or at least what you have just sewn?  We are riding Devil’s Gulch from top to bottom!  The trail should be in great shape thanks to your effort from the day before.  A shuttle will be provided from the bottom back to Squilchuck State Park.  For those wishing for more uphill you can simply ride back to the top OR we will have a hard charger group that will ride up from the park before the awesome decent begins.

$25 is the suggested donation to help offset costs for this weekend of camping, trail work, riding, and did we mention the PIG?!?!?!

Please RSVP for this event.  To do so go to the Evergreen calendar

For more details about the park and direction to it visit: SSP

If you have never ridden Devil’s Gulch you may want to visit: Evergreen’s Trail Wiki

Don’t want to camp?  There are plenty of hotels and motels located a few miles from the park.

Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance did big things in 2011, and we need you to donate today so we can do even more in 2012.Among our biggest successes was launching our professional trail crew.  This year the government grant program that provided half the funding has changed, so we need to entirely fund the crew through donations.   We can only do it with your support.
The total amount we need to raise to continue the trail crew and the three other programs for 2012 is $74,500.  As of today we’ve raised $39,000, so we have $35,500 to go to be able sustain Evergreen’s ability to create and protect sustainable mountain bike opportunities in Washington.  The three programs, and one late addition, are:
1.  Continue our Trail Maintenance Crew that was launched this year.
2.  Build Capacity by hiring a Communications and Membership Director.
3.  Trail construction in many areas, including Tiger Mountain in Issaquah, Dry Hill in Port Angeles and Squilchuck State Park near Wenatchee.
4. We had to add a fourth goal last month as we had $15,000 of trail building equipmentstolen.

Thank you to everyone who has donated!  Our corporate supporters include REI, Clif, The Home Depot Foundation, and Cascade Designs/Platypus.   Thank you, we’re well on our way to meeting our goal!
Continue Evergreen’s Professional Trail Maintenance Crew
Taking care of the trails we ride has always been one of Evergreen’s top priorities.  In 2011 weraised the ante on trail maintenance by bringing on two trail crew leaders, Brian Pautler and Chris Yankoviak.  This enabled us to do much needed trail maintenance on some of your favorite trails AND lead projects in remote areas we’ve never had the bandwidth to effectively tackle.
Here are some of this year’s trail maintenance highlights:

  • Backcountry trail maintenance in a dozen counties, six ranger districts, State Parks, and DNR land.
  • Brian and Chris established working relationships with 12 new land managers.
  • Over 4,000 hours of volunteer trail maintenance on public land (not including Duthie, Tiger, or South Fork Snoqualmie, which are construction, not maintenance).
  • We turned $8,000 of your donations into $45,000 in funding through grants and matching donations to power the program!
  • The program helped drive Kettle Fest, Helens Fest, and Devils Fest events.
  • Middle Fork Snoqualmie required a great deal of work and without the program would have likely remained closed over the summer of 2011.
  • A huge slate of Central Washington work parties led by Chris which in most cases were firsts for Evergreen.

Evergreen continues to pursue grants to power the maintenance crews, but due to timing changes in one key grant program, some funding isn’t available in time this Work Partyyear.  Your donations are critical to keeping the trail crew active for 2012.

This program is a very big deal, and having paid crews on the ground brings many benefits, including:

  •  Vastly increased capacity to maintain and improve trails.
  •  Maintain trails in areas that are remote or have too many bureaucratic hurdles for a volunteer crew leader.
  • Support our volunteer crew leaders so they can leadmore trail days with less burnout.
  • Staff on the ground to develop relationships with land managers, identify new trail opportunities, and identify threats to trail access before it’s too late.

The 2011 trail maintenance crew has had an immediate and noticeable impact on our trails, as well as opening doors for new opportunities.  Please donate today so we can have a trail maintenance crew again this year!
